Five Places to Pump it Up in 2023
If you’ve uttered the phrase “new year, new me” in the last week, let us suggest a few of our favorite gyms and places to work out in downtown Raleigh. Lace up your sneakers and get your endorphins going at one of these fun (and rewarding) local gyms in 2023!
YMCA of the Triangle - The Y has 22 locations in the Triangle area, including the Poyner, Alexander, and Southeast Raleigh YMCAs in downtown Raleigh. One membership gives you access to all of them, so hop around and see which one you like best! Pro tip: The Poyner Y offers hot yoga classes AND opens earlier on Sundays.
MADabolic - Group fitness is fun and approachable at MADabolic in the warehouse district. This strength-driven interval training gym will have you looking and feeling stronger in no time. All levels are welcome – bring a friend and get your sweat on!
F45 - There’s a reason F45 is known as “life changing” to its members. This 45-minute group workout torches calories in a mix of circuit and HIIT-style movements. Located on the first floor of The L Building, F45 doesn’t stop at a great workout - they also encourage holistic wellbeing and nutrition. Not ready to hit the gym or still WFH? Choose the “Workout at home” option.
Current Wellness: Just two blocks east of Moore Square is Current Wellness, a fitness studio bridging physical and mental wellness in Downtown Raleigh. The boutique gym offers small-group fitness, yoga and dance classes, as well as massage therapy, counseling, acupuncture and more. The center’s mission is to be as inclusive and accessible as possible, so we love that members can apply for sliding scale pricing, or contribute to the pay-it-forward fund for others!
Chavis Park - If you’re looking for a budget-friendly gym membership, consider getting a fitness pass with Raleigh Parks! The brand new John Chavis Community Center in southeast Raleigh has a fitness room with plenty of cardio equipment and weights. Monthly passes are just $15.
