Five Things You Don’t Want to Miss at the N.C. State Fair
It’s the fairest time of the year, and we couldn’t be more excited that the N.C. State Fair is here! There are only 10 days to visit so be sure to plan a trip between Thursday, Oct. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 27. Here are our top five favorite things to do:
It isn’t a trip to the fair without food! The Fair has all the classics, of course, including turkey legs, popcorn, freshly squeezed lemonade, funnel cake, fried Oreos and cotton candy, but this year there are new unique items that might intrigue you! Try the Granny Cone – a fresh-baked chimney cake filled with buttery corn cake and maple bacon ice cream topped with crunchies and whipped cream. There’s something fun to please everyone in your group!
Smithfield’s Hunger Relief Day is on Thursday, Oct. 24. This year, all donations go to Hurricane Helene relief efforts, and you can bring more than just cans! Bring six nonperishable food items to receive free admission and help support our neighbors in Western North Carolina.
The animals always seem to steal the show at the State Fair Ark with more than 60 different animals on display. See all types of livestock like cattle, sheep, goats and other breeds raised right here in N.C. You can even milk a cow with the help of the volunteers!
Take the Skyliner to Heritage Circle and listen to live bluegrass performances as you enjoy homemade ice cream, apple cider and more! Be sure to stop by the historic working Old Grist Mill and try a hush puppy sample too!
Free admission during lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Bring $20 cash and enter through Gate 9 off Trinity Road for the weekday lunch pass program. As long as you leave by 1:30 p.m. you’ll receive your $20 back for a complete refund!
