Raleigh’s Rooftop Rundown
Raleigh in the summer months is an aesthetic that is very special to us. Green canopies, the sounds of live music in the distance, butterflies and squirrels everywhere…nothing gets better. Only way to top it off? Enjoying a cocktail or a good plate with a rooftop view. Keep reading for our rundown on the best rooftops in DTR:
Raleigh Times Bar (14 E Hargett St.): An Urban Oasis
The corner of Hargett and Wilmington Street has a way of being quaint and lively at the same time. This rooftop is located at that corner, and provides a perfect spot to sit a spell and receive the energy of the city’s present moment. On a weekday, it’s a refreshing place for nachos and a belgian beer. On a weekend, it’s a spot to bring the party! The rooftop is one of six seat-yourself rooms to choose from in The Raleigh Times, (and our favorite). If you go on a Tuesday night, you can catch a live Beer & Banjos show upstairs.
10th and Terrace (616 S Salisbury St. floor 10): Luxurious and Panoramic
10th and Terrace is perched atop the Residence Inn on South Salisbury Street, but it isn’t only open for hotel guests. This bar offers an underrated rooftop experience that we think is perfect for a romantic date or a sweet night out with friends. Since it’s on the edge of downtown, 10th and Terrace has a stunning panoramic view of the city's skyline. The enchanting setting makes for a memorable evening, the cocktails are strong, and the service is personable.
Centro (106 S Wilmington St.): Mexican Deliciousness
Located on South Wilmington Street, Centro brings a taste of Mexico to downtown Raleigh's rooftop scene. Its colorful murals and decor makes for a cozy and light-hearted experience. How can you be blue eating chips and salsa and drinking a margarita on a rooftop?! We highly recommend the Mole Poblano and the Tres Leches!!
The Willard Rooftop Bar and Lounge (9 Glenwood Ave.): Two Heated Terraces
This spot is situated on Glenwood Avenue, venturing a little further from the heart of downtown. Two heated rooftop terraces offer an escape from the hustle and bustle of Glenwood’s streetfront. The Willard’s classic space hosts public events such as Jazz Nights, along with having availability for private bookings for work meetings, etc. It is also open throughout the week as a functioning bar and restaurant with finely crafted cocktails and delicious small plates.
The Dillon (223 S West St.): More than Just an Apartment Building
Who knew The Dillon had a 9th floor observation deck you can just take the elevator to? This apartment building hosts pop-up events including weekly rooftop yoga and meditation classes. It’s a great chance to connect with your community over the endearing view of our city’s landscape. After all, the best part about Raleigh is the trees. What’s a better way to remember your zen, than by viewing all that beauty from above?
The Glassbox (230 Fayetteville St. floor 5): Golden Hour Venue Space
Our final rooftop spot is not a bar or restaurant, but rather a venue space with super unique views of downtown Raleigh. Hosting elegant wedding functions is what this spot is most known for. You’ll find yourself immersed in the charm of the cityscape at this place. If you’re looking for a private, boutique-style, high class rooftop event, this space is your golden choice.
We can't help but feel that this vibrant city has the potential for even more rooftop experiences.
So, we leave you with the question: What kind of rooftop oasis would you love to see emerge in the heart of the City of Oaks?
