Make DTR Your Personal Office: Five Places to Work Remotely (for free!)

The percentage of employees who work remotely (full-time or part-time) has skyrocketed the past few years. While staying cozy with a laptop at home is ideal for some, it can be easy to get distracted and antsy when you’re staring at the same four walls day after day.

Below we’ve shared five spots around downtown Raleigh where you can bring a coffee (or buy a coffee) and your work to switch things up a little!

Transfer Co. Food Hall – A beautiful brick oasis, Transfer Co. Food Hall has large wooden tables throughout the spacious first floor, a mezzanine level with comfy chairs, and outdoor seating with umbrellas for when the weather’s warm. The industrial feel with vibrant plant life + your favorite playlist flowing through your headphones is a vibe for brainstorming new ideas or knocking out a list of admin tasks. We guarantee you won’t go hungry with vendors like Benchwarmer Bagels, Mama Crow’s, and Captain Cookie & The Milkman. Last, but definitely not least, reward yourself with a few brews from Burial Beer Co.! 500 E. Davie St.

Raleigh Union Station The train station? Really? YES! If you have not been to Raleigh Union Station, pop by and take a peek. The building materials and furniture in the lobby create an urban co-working office aesthetic. It has an ample amount of outlets to plug in all of your technology, and the building is surrounded by coffee shops, restaurants, and retail (Heirloom Brewshop, The Pit Barbecue, and Father & Sons, to name a few!) 510 W. Martin St.

Black and White Coffee at Videri – Also located in the Warehouse District, Black and White Coffee treats you to a little get-away from your at-home desk. Work for hours surrounded by the smell of sweet, sweet chocolate being made at Videri as you enjoy a latte and a pastry. On a pleasant day, make the choice to sit outside where you’ll be surrounded by bamboo and a variety of tall plants (you’ll almost forget you’re downtown!) 327 W. Davie St.

Wells Fargo Plaza & the “Downtown Swing” – Center yourself in the middle of all the action by working in the Wells Fargo Plaza. You have the option to sit at one of the many round tables OR one of the swing benches that lull you into a state of relaxation and deep focus. When you take a much-needed break during the day, grab lunch at Raleigh Raw or The Raleigh Times and peruse local shops including Curate and Deco. 150 Fayetteville St.

10th and Terrace – Allow inspiration to strike and the stress of life melt away as you look over the city from 10th and Terrace’s rooftop while conquering your next presentation. We recommend utilizing this spot closer to the end of the work day so you can wrap up with a sparkling beverage and enjoy the vibrant sunset. 616 S. Salisbury St.
